Jagjit Singh Mahil joined Barnes High School in 1958 . He along with
his brother Tej pal Singh Mahil graduated from school in 1965 with 2
nd division .He joined the Indian Military Academy (IMA) ,Dehradun
in June 1968 .
He ,along with his two brothers ,Tej pal and Satinder pal are fourth
generation army officers .He was commissioned in June 1970 and was
part of the first regular army officers course to be sent directly
to the Air Defense Artillery .After taking part in 1970 war with
Pakistan ,he as a young Lieutanant was sent to the erstwhile Soviet
Union for a prestigious Air Defense equipment course in 1973 .
Jagjit Singh Mahil also known as Jagi has done extremely well in the
army and rose to become a Major General .He took part in the Kargil
war against Pakistan and has been an instructor in various schools
of instructions in the army and was the Commandant of the Army Air
Defense College at Gopalpur ,Orissa A thorough proffesional ,Jagi
has made a niche for himself in the Army Air Defense .
He has specialized in Air Defense Missiles and innovated ways and
means in improving the efficacy of various Air Defense equipment
.For this he has been awarded the prestigious " Ati Vishisht Seva
Medal" (AVSM) by the President of India on 31st March 2006.
After 35 yrs of glorious and dedicated service in the army Jagjit
Singh Mahil "Hung up his boots" on 31st November 2005 and is
currently settled and enjoying his retired life with his family in
Pune .
